Victoria Ann Maykowski Sovesky

Victoria Ann Maykowski Sovesky, 95, of Negley Street, Farrell, passed away peacefully in her residence on the afternoon of Monday, April 18, 2016. Born in Sharon on April 1, 1921, Victoria was the daughter of the late Stanley and Josephine Wielechowski Maykowski. She married William J. Sovesky on August 20, 1945 and he preceded her in death in October of 1987. Victoria worked at Westinghouse during WWII and later retired from Perkins Restaurant in 1989. A Charter Member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Victoria was an active member of its Ladies of Charity and served as chairperson of the Lenten Soup Luncheon for its Honduras Mission. She graduated from Farrell High School in 1939 and was a former member and past president of the Eckles School and Eckles-John Hetra P.T.A.s . She belonged to the Farrell High Music Guild, Farrell Jr. and Sr. High and Mercer County Council of P.T.A.s and the Farrell Little League and Midget Football Auxiliaries. Victoria served as a volunteer for the Mercer County Cancer Society and Heart Association Fund Drives. She was a Street Monitor for the Farrell Human Relations and taught arts and crafts at its E.S.S.A. Center. She belonged to the Girl Scouts of America as a girl and adult for 57 years and was a member of the Encourilations & Evergreen Adult Group of Penn Lakes Girl Scout Council. She was a member of the Shenango Conservancy, both the national and local chapter 3616 of A.A.R.P., the Farrell High Alumni Association and was a lifelong Cleveland Browns and Indians fan. Victoria is survived by her children; Joyce and Donald Church of Andover, OH, Renee Shank and Robert Kozarich of Farrell, Leslie and Thomas Mulligan of Palm Coast, FL, David and Jeanne Sovesky of Hermitage and Jerry and Karen Sovesky of Farrell, a sister, Mrs. Stella Gerlach of West Middlesex, 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, Victoria was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Tina, a granddaughter, Olivia Sovesky, 5 sisters; Sophie Ringer, Jennie Maykowski, Jean Tomczak, Cecelia Yourga and Tenoria Sapala, two brothers; John and Marian Maykowski and two son-in-laws, Robert Fee and Thomas Shank. Friends will be received on Friday, April 22nd from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Tomon Funeral & Cremation Services in the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 E. State St., Sharon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. Interment will take place in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
