Vera Ann Sammons

Vera Ann Sammons, 78 of Ellport passed away a Good Samaritan Hospice in Brighton Twp. on Friday, August 22, 2014 at 6:51 AM. Born in Aliquippa, PA on May 10, 1936, Vera was the daughter of the late Steve and Mary Golixer Novak. She is survived by her husband, Calvin Sammons whom she married on March 6, 1999. Vera had worked at Romar Textile in Ellport for many years and later as a caregiver at the Lutheran Home in Zelienople. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish and the Christian Mothers of the Church. Vera was a member and former officer of the Hungarian Club and the Ellport Boosters. She attended the 3rd Presbyterian Church in New Castle with her husband and was a member of the Crusaders Sunday School Class. Vera was a 1954 graduate of Lincoln High School. Besides her husband Calvin she is survived by 5 children, James and Mary DeMauro of Pittsburgh, Elizabeth and Roger Nye of Ellwood City, Joni and Gene Frank of New Castle, Toni and Norm Laszlo and Frank DeMauro both of Ellport, 4 step-children, Susan Sammons and Mike Garner of Meeker, CO, John and Terry Sammons of New Wilmington, PA, Marilyn and Henry Morphis of LaPorte, IN and Dave and Bonnie Sammons of Horse Cave, KY, 3 sisters, Mary Zollum of Ellport, Helen and Steve Evanson of Koppel and Cookie and Michael Billingsley of Oxford, MS, a sister-in-law, Rev. Rosylan Kummer of Evans City and a brother-in-law, Fred Sammons of Kalamazoo, MI, 25 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Vera was preceded in death by her parents, 1st husband, John DeMauro, daughter, Mary Ann DeMauro and a brother John Novak. Friends my call at the Joseph A. Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory, 97 Grim Avenue, Ellport on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 from 5 to 7 PM. A Memorial Service will be offered at 7 PM following visitation in the Funeral Home. Family suggests contributions can be made in Vera's name to the Good Samaritan Hospice, 3500 Brooktree Rd., Suite 320, Wexford, PA 15090.

Vera loved the Sammons family from the time we stepped into her life. She had the most amazing way of making everyone in her world feel cared for. All the memories are warm and wonderful. She is so missed!
