Steven Huzinec

Steven Huzinec, 93, of Stiefel Avenue, Franklin Township, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2015 in the Ellwood City Hospital. Born in Russellton, PA on June 9, 1921 Steven was the son of the late Bertha Huzinec. He married the former Betty Irene Sutherland on October 2, 1958 and she preceded him in death on January 18, 2009. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Steven served in both WWII and the Korean War. During WWII, he saw action in the Pacific Theatre, including the Battle of Okinawa. He was a member of the Ellwood City VFW Post 252 and proudly served in the Veteran's Honor Guard, performing honors at over 1000 funerals. Steven retired from US Steel in 1972 where he worked in the hot mill. After his retirement, he worked as a custodian for many years at New Brighton Elementary School. He loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed traveling. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Steven is survived by his children and their spouses, David Huzinec of Franklin Twp., Georgianne (Kenneth) Huzinec McCann of North Sewickley Twp., Barbara Babcock of Franklin Twp., Sally (Michael) Huzinec Santiago of Franklin Twp., a grandson, Robert Babcock, and a brother, Frank Huzinec of Ellwood City. In addition to his mother and his wife, Steven was preceded in death by three brothers; John, George and Mike and four sisters; Marie, Julia, Ann and Betty. Friends will be received on Tuesday, May 12th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Joseph A. Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory, 97 Grim Avenue, Ellport. Full military honors will be given at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies on Wednesday, May 13th.
