Rodger C. Smith, 65, of 208 Division Avenue, Ellwood City passed away in his residence on Monday, June 9, 2014. Born in Ellwood City on August 13, 1948 Rodger was the son of Mary Louise McDowell Wilson of Ellwood City and the late Donald Smith. Rodger was a 1966 graduate of Lincoln High School and he joined the Navy later that year. He served as a Corpsman during the Vietnam War. Rodger married the former Dianne Deemer on March 17, 1990. He retired from TRACO in 2012 after 16 years of service. Rodger enjoyed hunting and camping, playing golf and restoring his Mustang. He was also a certified SCUBA diver. In addition to his mother, Rodger is survived by his wife, Dianne Smith of Ellwood City, a son and daughter-in-law, Derrick and Susan Smith of Ellwood City, a step-daughter, Michelle and Bruce Harter of New Castle, two step-sons, Robert and Robin Hickman of Ellport and Richard Hickman of Orlando, FL and three sisters: Karen Bentel of Ellwood City, Debbie and Joe Floreno of McComb, MI, Tracey and Tim Penwell of West Pittsburg and five grandchildren. Friends will be received on Wednesday, June 11th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Joseph A. Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory, 97 Grim Avenue, Ellport. The Veterans Honor guard are asked to meet at the funeral home at 3:45 pm for military honors. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 8:00 pm Wednesday with Rev. R. Tod Custer. Interment will take place at St. Mark's Lutheran Cemetery.
Although I have not seen Rodger in many years he has always been and always be a friend. Condolences to the family from the Greenwood clan.
