Joseph G. Kushner

Joseph G. Kushner, 91 of 1898 Cricket Lane, Sharpsville, formerly of 575 S. 8th Street, Sharpsville passed away at his residence on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at 7:56 AM. Born in Powhatan Point, OH on March 12, 1924 Joseph was the youngest on four children to John and Mary Matskanich Kushner. He was a 1942 graduate of Farrell High School. On October 9, 1948 John married the former Martha Wanchik who passed away on July 10, 2014. Joseph retired from the Westinghouse Corp. after 40 years of service. He later worked as a part time security guard at Howell Industries in Hubbard, OH. Joseph was a member of St. John's Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church and a former member of the Church's Men's Club and the A.C.R.Y. Bowling League. Joseph was a veteran of the Army serving in India where he was part of the China-Burma-India Operation during World War II. He enjoyed playing cards and trips to Mountaineer Casino. He also enjoyed attending the Hermitage Senior Center. He loved attending and supporting as many of his granddaughter's activities as he could to cheer them on. Joseph is survived by his 2 children and their spouses, Deborah and Rev. Deacon John Anderson with whom Joseph resided in Sharpsville, Gregory and Carolyn Kushner of Horsham, PA and 3 granddaughters, Emily Anderson, Tatiana and Nadia Kushner. Joseph was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Helen Davis and Mary Morris and a brother, John Kushner. Friends may call at the Tomon Funeral and Cremation Services in the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 E. State St., Sharon on Thursday, December 10, 2015 from 5 to 8 PM and Friday, December 11, 2015 from 10 until the time of the Funeral Service at 11 AM in St. John's Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church in Hermitage. A Panachida Service will be offered at the Funeral Home on Thursday at 7:45 PM. Funeral Services will be offer by Fr. David Mastroberte, Msgr. Michael Polanichka and Rev. Deacon John Anderson. Interment will follow in St. John's Orthodox Cemetery. Memorial Contributions can be made in Joseph's name to the Building Fund at St. John's Orthodox Church, Morefield Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148.
