Fred Edward Lutz, 55, formerly of Ellwood City, passed away on Sunday, March 15th after a hard fought battle with mesothelioma. A son of the late Edward and Dorothy Lutz, he attended Riverside High School before joining the US Navy. He was a four year serviceman, specializing in aviation and aircraft mechanics. After receiving his honorable discharge, he worked for Koppel Steel and received a certificate in Business Administration. Mr. Lutz was the Post Master in Bessermer, PA at the time of his death and he worked for the US Postal Service for more than 25 years. He received numerous awards and certificates, recognizing his personal achievements. He was a loving father and an active member of N.A.P.S., the American Legion and the V.F.W. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was known to many friends at Weisz's Hazel Manor, the V.F.W., the Tincup and Hogwild. He is survived by his daughter, Shalane M. Lutz of Morgantown, WV, two sisters, Catherine J. Hayhurst of Portage, IN and Ivia Belle Freed of Ellwood City and several nieces, nephews and great-nephews. A wake will be held in Fred's honor at the Del-Mar Golf Course Clubhouse, Smiley Stop Road, Wayne Township, on Sunday, March 22nd from 2:00 to 5:00 PM.
