Evelyn L. McElwain, 81 of Wurtemburg Rd., Wayne Twp. passed away with her loving family by her side at Evergreen Nursing Center on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 1:57 AM. Born in Punxsutawney, PA on November 18, 1932 Evelyn was the 4th child of 7 to the late Francis T. and Dorothy Brady Johnson. She is survived by he husband of 49 years, Earl L. McElwain. They were married on July 31, 1964. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ray Steimmetz in 1952 in an industrial accident and her 2nd husband, Howard Gwin. Evelyn worked for several local businesses including the Ellwood Knitting Mill and was a selfemployed caterer. She was also known as the "Nutroll Lady" and sold nutrolls at craft shows in the area. She was a member of the Wurtemburg United Methodist Church and the Wurtemburg-Perry VFD Auxiliary. She was very proud that she graduated high school in 1998 at the age of 66 and in 2000 she was inducted into the Lawrence Co. Bowling Hall of Fame. Besides her husband, Evelyn felt her greatest accomplishment was her three girls, Carol Lee and Doug Gardner of Dawson, PA, Patty Barrett of Hermitage, PA, Midge and Fred Eidson of Aurora, CO, sister, Nancy and Burton Burk of Leesburg, PA, 7 grandchildren, Wayne (Deena) Peffer, Robert (Janel) Peffer, Erin, Eric, Elyssa and Elaina Eidson and Christopher Barrett and 3 great grandchildren, Mariah Spellman, Wayne and Zachery Peffer. Evelyn was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Jeannette Zimmerman, Margaret Kira, Louisa and Lorretta Johnson and 2 brothers, Francis and Tommy Johnson. Friends may call at the Joseph A. Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 97 Grim Ave., Ellport, PA on Friday, December 13, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and on Saturday from 10 to the time of the Funeral Service at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow in Wurtemburg Cemetery.
