Elizabeth "Betty" Williams

Elizabeth Josephine (Betty) Walczak Williams, 83 of Greentree passed away peacefully at UPMC Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh on January 26, 2010 at 9:10 pm of pneumonia caused by advanced parkinson's disease. She was the eleventh child of John & Johanna Gorzkowski Walczak, born in Ellwood City, PA, on March 19, 1926. Her parents were natives of Galicia, Poland. She lived in Washington D.C., Kansas City, Detroit, & Pittsburgh before marrying Walter Hugh Williams (of Philadelphia) on June 26, 1954. She worked for eleven years & acquired two years of college in an era when many women married young. She became the happy & devoted mother of three daughters. She was a member of St. Margaret's Church in Greentree. An avid reader, letter writer & travelogue writer, she especially enjoyed movies & theater performances, walking/hiking & travel abroad and appreciated spending time with a wide circle of friends & relatives. Betty was also known for her photography subjects including family, friends and travels. She is survived by her three daughters, Connie Williams (San Mateo, CA), Maura Williams (& Mary Lou Hartzler) of Lansdowne, PA, Kristin Williams (Pittsburgh, PA), two sisters and one brother, Katherine (& Dale) Knapschaefer of Manchester, N.H.; Joan (& Henry) Rodriguez of Falls Church, VA; and James (& Franziska) Walczak of Oxon Hill, MD, and sister-in-law Loma Walczak; twenty-five loving nieces and nephews, and numerous friends, including Lorraine Marinaccio (Pittsburgh) and Lanie Wilson (Monroeville), close friends for over sixty-five years. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter, a chemist of Neville Chemical Co. and ten deceased siblings: Victoria Walczak, Eva Walczak, Mary Fox, Eva Alberth, Ann McCarthy, Stan, Tom, Aloyisius, Francis & Johnny Walczak. Betty will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her. Friends may call on Sunday, Jan 31st 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. At the Joseph Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home, 97 Grim Avenue, Ellport, PA 16117 Mass of Christian Burial will be at Holy Redeemer Church, 415 4th Street, Ellwood City, PA 16117 on Monday, February 1, 2010 at 10 A.M.
