Edward Zahuranec

Edward Zahuranec, 95 formerly of Mercer entered into eternal rest at Nugent Convalescent Home on April 25, 2015. Ed was born in Donora, PA on October 24, 1919 to John and Mary (Donley) Zahuranec. The family moved to Jefferson Township, Mercer County PA when Ed was eight years old. He walked to attend the one room schoolhouse in Charleston before attending Hickory High. During which time he worked on local farms such as the McConnell Farm (where the Shenango Valley Mall stands) and others mostly handling the horse teams. He also built a large barn still standing on the family's 35 acre property when he was eighteen years old. He married Irene Franczek on February 2, 1946 in St Adalbert's Catholic Church . They built their own home after marrying. He and Irene owned and operated the Charleston Fruit Farm. He was a machinist by trade employed by GATX and Fessler Machine Company. He also was a bus driver for the Mercer Schools and the local parochial schools where he was affectionately called "Mr Ed". He loved hunting and fishing in the Pennsylvania mountains, taking his two week vacation with his family driving to all but two of the states, and especially enjoyed Irene's superb cooking. He adored his grand children and his twelve great grandchildren. He is survived by three daughters, Faith (Ronald) Faber of Brookfield, Natalie (Steve) Lukac of Liberty, Gina Zahuranec of Sharpsviile; two sons Edward (Jennifer) Zahuranec of Mercer and Terry Zahuranec of Lakemont NY. Eleven grandchildren: Michael Faber, Danny Faber and Sarah Nash. Trevor, Michelle and Diane Zahuranec; Ashtin Graham and Cole Zahuranec; Courteney and Steven Lukac and Jessica Nameth. He was preceded in death by all his siblings: John, Andy, Frank, Dennis, Ralph, Vince, Rehart and Albert Zahuranec and Ethel Callen. Friends may call at Tomon Funeral and Cremation Services in the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 364 E. State St. Sharon on Monday, April 27, 2015 from 4 to 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Fr. Joseph Campbell at St. Adalbert Chruch in Farrell on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
