David O. Cook

WW II Navy Veteran and Hero, beloved husband, respected father, and fun-loving grand and great grandfather, David O'Dell Cook, 90 of Woodside Avenue, Ellwood City died the morning of Sunday, September 25, 2016 after a brief illness. Born in Wurtemburg on August 29, 1926, Dave was the son of the late George Harry and Mary Jane Wimer Cook. He was an active member of Wurtemburg Presbyterian Church where he was a former Elder and Usher. After Dave retired from the Navy with 20 years of service, he worked for Columbia Gas Transmission. Surviving Cook are his wife of 54 years, Kathryn Hepler Cook, children April & Eric Gaul of Wampum, Belinda & Patrick Donovan Ledyard, CT and David & Sherrie Cook of Sinking Springs, PA. Also are 15 grandchildren, Ashleigh & Chris Walter, Brendan & Hailey McQuiston, Eryn McQuiston, and Dylan Gaul; Courtney & Tyler Casper, Megan and Ethan Harris, Emily & Michael Kyle, Rhiannon, Daniel, Sean, Jedadiah, & Baileigh Donovan; Corinne & Mallorie Cook and Adelena Donovan as well as 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Elton and Dick Cook, and 2 sisters Florence Wiley and Jane King. His youngest sister, Ann McKim of Ellwood City survives. Cook will be remembered for his sense of humor, his commitment to his family, and his strong ethics and morals that he never failed to display and is immortalized in the Pacific Tsunami Museum for his rescue efforts in the Tsunami that hit Hilo, Hawaii in 1946. Friends may call at the Joseph A. Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory, 97 Grim Avenue, Ellport on Friday, September 30, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Funeral Service will be offered at the Funeral Home on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 11 AM with his Pastor, Rev. Rob Guy and former Pastor, Rev. Dan Stinson. Family suggests memorial contributions can be made in Dave's name to Wurtemburg Presbyterian Church. Full Military Rites will be offered by the Veteran's Honor Guard.
