Carl B. Zito, 92, formerly of Beaver Avenue, Schill Manor and Northview Estates, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2014 at 3:30 PM at Evergreen Care Center in Harmony. Mr. Zito was born on October 14, 1921 in Ellwood City to the late Vincenzo (Jim) Zito and Carmella N. Ambesi. Carl graduated from Lincoln High School in 1940 and served as a Seaman 2c in the US Navy as a storekeeper at the Norfolk Naval Air Station, VA from 1944-1946. He retired from the George K. Garrett Company in Ellwood City where he worked as a punch press and shear operator. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish and its Special Activities Group and served on the Holy Redeemer Credit Union Committee. Carl was a life-long Pittsburgh Pirates fan. Carl is survived by his sister, Joanne Contino McGrady of North Sewickley Twp., a sister in law, Mae Contino, 15 nephews and nieces, 27 great-nephews and nieces and 25 great-great nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his step-father, William Contino, four sisters: Mary Zito, Rosalie Boots, Elizabeth Moshier and Virginia Collins, three brothers: James Zito, B. Albert Contino and William Contino, Jr. and a niece, Roxanne McGrady Schock. Friends will be received on Wednesday, July 9th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Joseph A. Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory, 97 Grim Ave., Ellport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Redeemer Church on Thursday, July 10th at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in Carl's name to the Holy Redeemer Angel Fund.
